Week 2. (EXTRA) Why study history?


Why study history?
Edward Hallett Carr said. "History is a continuous process of interaction between the scholar and his facts, an ending dialogue between the present and the past."

I think there are two reasons to study history. The first is not to forget the people who sacrificed themselves in the past. Especially in Korea, there were independence activists against Japan and college students who opposed dictatorship, so we were able to achieve the current democracy. That's why we have to study history to remember them. 

Secondly, as E. H. Carr said, history is a constant conversation between the past and the present. We should study history to make a better future without repeating past mistakes.

Sum mary   Deviation refers to the act of violating cultural norms. Violating the law is usually called an official deviation, and the act of violating informal social norms is called an informal deviation. Deviation can vary considerably depending on culture. Deviations defined by sociologists have many forms. Merton suggested a type of deviant behavior. According to him, the type of deviation is presented based on two criteria. The first condition is the adherence to personal motivation or cultural goals. The second condition is the individual's belief in how to achieve the goal. By selecting these conditions as Yes or No, there are four types and one additional type. The four types appear to be suitability, innovation, realism, and retro. Dramaturgy (Sociology)

1. Summary -       Dramaturgy is a sociological perspective commonly used in micro-social explanations of social interactions in everyday life. In drama sociology, it is argued that the elements of human interaction depend on time, place and courtesy. The dramatic view is one of several sociological paradigms separate from other sociological theories because it analyzes context rather than examining the causes of human behavior. In the dramatic model, social interaction is analyzed in such a way that people live their lives like actors acting on stage.
