WEEK 13 : Why men and women chose different fields to study?

First of all, there is a different field in biology. For example, women are more emotional, and men are more sensitive to visual stimuli. Due to these biological differences, they are said to be better at different fields. I also admit that this biological difference is caused by this biological difference. However, I think that the field of study should be divided according to a person's tendency or characteristics rather than by men and women. For example, if you were interested in the media since you were young, you would try to study it, and if you were interested in history, you would want to study history in depth. Of course, biological differences make it more likely to do emotional and artistic things, but I don't think everyone does.

WEEK 13 : What toys are marketed for boys and what for girls?

I think robots and dolls are the most representative. Robots are usually for boys, and dolls are for girls. In addition to this, car-related toys mainly target boys, while things like cosmetic play sets and house plays target girls. Of course, that's what most kids do. But girls can play with Lego or cars, and boys can play house play set. It seems that toys that usually play roles are targeted at girls and active toys such as cars and dinosaurs are targeted at boys.Recently, however, I don't think this distinction is meaningful because each person uses what they want to play.

WEEK 13 : Is Korea becoming multiethnic? Why?

I think it's almost right. First of all, due to globalization, we are exposed to the culture of other countries. And we seem to accept it. Moreover, there are more foreigners settling in Korea than in the past. In other words, I think Korea is becoming a multi-ethnic country due to various factors such as globalization, multicultural families, and immigration. Of course, the idea that Korea is a homogeneous nation is strong. Of course, it is not a complete denial. However, increasing diversity due to globalization is a factor that cannot be ignored. Therefore, it seems most appropriate to say that it is becoming more multi-nationalized.

WEEK 13 : Introduction to Sociology/Race and Ethnicity

1. SUMMARY Race is a biological classification idea. However, it is controversial because of its racial status. In the 19th century, scholars made three claims about race. Race is said to be objective and spontaneous, have a ganglion relationship and is a valid scientific category for predicting behavior. It is said to be mainly divided into skin color, face shape, hair color and texture. The best approach to understanding race is to recognize overlapping biological and genetic factors. But the actual standards are said to be artificial and social. We can increase our understanding with awareness of redundant parts. Prejudice is prejudgment. Prejudice may not be interpreted as discrimination. Of course, it can lead to discrimination, but discrimination and prejudice are said to be separate concepts. Prejudice is considered negative. However, it suggests that bias is one of the factors of human adaptation that promotes viability. It's like an innate instinct. Racism can be expre...

WEEK 13 : Introduction to Sociology/Gender

1. SUMMARY CIS are people who follow a given gender. In other words, men at birth try to remain men. TRANS are people who don't follow their original gender. Change sex from man to woman, from woman to man. This is because the biological sex and social sex are different. Sex is generally divided into two parts, male and female. But biology is actually more complex. It can also be changed. Until the 1950s, there was a belief that sex change was naturally possible. However, it is currently implemented through scientific and medical methods. Gender is similar to sex, an interpretation of human behavior patterns. In other words, the behavior that must be done according to gender. But gender is also flexible. Men and women are biologically different. There is no known reason. First of all, there is a belief that physiological differences may have been socially affected. In other words, differences arose as they evolved. Gender discrimination is divided into four attitudes: the...

WEEK 12 : Which are more important?

Which are more important? [income/wealth, age, race, sex, education, occupation, residence] In my opinion, income/wealth is the most important. With high income/wealth, we can change our position or last our good position. For example, we can learn qualitative classes, if we paid money. And we don’t have to get a job which is for money. Because we already have enough money. Like these situations, we can get and occupy high/good position with high income/wealth. Of course, we can’t change age or race. But I think income/wealth is the most important thing though. Age and race is not assessment/evaluation stuff. And we can’t assure that the younger or the older is better that the others. Age, race, sex is just the way or character to understand others. So, income/wealth that can lead everything to more good position is the most important things among them.

WEEK 12 : Social inequality

1. SUMMARY Social inequality is divided into consequential inequality and opportunity inequality. It also relates to other inequalities such as gender inequality and racial inequality. These inequalities can be measured by the Gini coefficient. Social inequality is in almost every society. These social inequalities can be classified as equal society, ranking society, and stratified society. Egalitarian society advocates equality, so there is no discrimination. Class society is a community grouped by class. The types of social inequality are divided into wealth, treatment, responsibility, politics, life and membership. Inequality causes conflict and discontent. Social stratification is a hierarchical arrangement of society. Through this, authority and power are stratified and additional stratified. The naturalities of the profession are divided, and the caste system takes place. It is also related to religion and it is permanent. Gender inequality also belongs to social inequa...

WEEK 12 : Social stratification

1. SUMMARY Social class refers to distinguishing people by things like economic factors. Divided into the upper, middle, and lower classes of liquor.Functional theory can be said to be necessary for maintaining society. But conflict theory points to a lack of social mobility. The foundation of social stratification consists of four principles. Individuals are the assets of society. Social stratification is exclusive. Social stratification is variable. Social stratification leads to quantitative and qualitative inequality. The majority of complex societies have a pattern of stratification. Within a layering system, in-generation and inter-generational shifts can be made. This is the basis for layer variability. Max explained bourgeois and proletariat. Max Webber was influenced by Max's idea. But it denied the possibility of communism. He introduced three independent factors in the theory of stratification. Class, status, power. Anthropologists refute the universality of social st...

WEEK 11 : Dramaturgy (sociology)

1. SUMMARY Dramaturgy is a term used in social interaction from a micro-view. In Dramaturgy, the elements of interaction depend on time, place, and hearing. The purpose of self-expression is to accommodate the audience. A dramatic view analyzes the context. However, there is a controversy that it can be perceived as a paradigm framework, not a theory. Dramas emphasize expressive power as a major component of interaction. It also manages the environment, clothing, word selection and behavior. With respect to performance, there are seven important elements that Goffman identifies. Belief, mask, realization, idealization, maintenance of expression control, truth, mystification. Drama interaction mainly cooperates as a team for the party line. There are three steps. There are front stage, back stage, and exterior. The front stage is divided into appearance and manners. Appearance reflects social status and manners are the way actors behave. Backstage is a place where you can relax ...

WEEK 11 : Symbolic interactionism

1. SUMMARY The symbolic interaction was designed by George Herbert Mead. The mind means the ability of an individual to use symbols to attach meaning. Self represents an individual's ability to reflect the way an individual is perceived by others. Society is the place where interaction takes place. Herbert Blumer, Mead's student, coined the term symbolic interaction. Symbolic interactions consist of communication, self-concept, and relationships between individuals and society. Symbolic interaction has five central ideas. Man must be understood as a social and thinking being. Human must define their situation. The cause of human behavior is the result of what has happened in the present situation. Humans are described as active beings in relation to the environment. Snow uses human agencies, interactive determination, symbolization and emergence. New media is used to define everything related to interaction. The theory of symbolic interactionists is pointed out to be ...

WEEK 10 : Social network

1. SUMMARY Social network refers to a society consisting of a set of social structures. The social network perspective provides the social analysis method and pattern explanation theory. By using this, we can investigate network dynamics. Social networks are also interdisciplinary. It is easy to explain the social structure determined by interaction. In addition, it is inevitably relevant. However, this theory is criticized for being ignored by individual institutions. Of course, that may not be the case in reality. The patterns that make up the social network system are very complex. This becomes more complicated as its size increases. Personal information is likely to contain a lot of information. Therefore, there is a limit to limiting the scope of analysis.  Social networks are divided into micro, meso and macro. The micro-level is the starting point for small groups. Within the micro-level are the diabetic level indicating the relationship between two individuals, the tri...

WEEK 10 : Introduction to Sociology/Social Structure

1.SUMMARY A social structure is a term used to refer to a continuous bond between individuals or groups. This is the concept that society groups grouping groups or roles with different purposes, meanings, and functions. An example of social structure is social stratification. This is a concept that is divided differently based on social divisions such as gender, race, etc. This social structure affects several social systems, including economy, law and politics. Embedness is a term introduced to describe the impact of social structures on an individual's. Durkhem thought that various social institutions and practices played a crucial role in ensuring functional integration of society. The most influential attempts to combine the concept of social structure with the will to choose are called the theory of structuralization by Anthony Giddens and the theory of practice by Pierre Bourdieu. Giddens refers to the duality that structures and institutions cannot be separated from each ...

WEEK 9-2 :Introduction to Sociology/Deviance

1. SUMMARY Deviation is an act that violates cultural norms. It is divided into two types. There is an official breakaway from criminal acts in violation of the law, which is an official regulation. Secondly, breaking what is not enacted by law but is considered a norm is called an informal deviation. Burping is an example. However, this deviation varies from culture to culture. This is because the norms are different. Psychologically and biologically impaired people are also said to cause deviant behavior due to differences in brain structure. Socialism typology presents five types of deviation. Conformity is to reject legal means to achieve a goal, and innovation is to reject a goal. Consciousness involves rejecting cultural goals and retreats are related to rejecting traditional means to achieve goals and goals. Rebellion is a case of rejecting cultural goals and traditional means and trying to replace them. Structural functionalism says disparate behavior plays an important rol...

WEEK 9 : Can we make the schools more useful?

I can make it. If you make a change in school, I think you can make it. If you look at Korean schools now, they aim to go to 'university' and only study it. It is because club activities that should be done for students' interests are also aimed to enter university rather than really wanting to do so. We are all aware of this problem, envious to see schools in other countries that value students' interests and find themselves through activities. Doesn't this mean we have to change this way? Of course, just because you envy schools in other countries doesn't mean it's just useful. However, the purpose of education should not end simply by going to school well. If I say I'm interested in the media, there should be an environment in which I can delve deeply into and study the field and be educated. And this role should be played by the school. And I think we should break away from the formalized process. School says that if you want to get a job you want t...

WEEK 9 : Where do we learn more: in schools or outside?

I think I learn a lot from the outside. Of course, I learn a lot at school, but I think I should find and learn what I really want to learn not in school but outside. Learning should be looked directly at whether it is an institution, an online lecture, or maybe a school. I don't think Korean schools are learning what I want to do because they study for college. So I answered outside. For example, I can look back on my high school life. I had a goal to enter the major of media, and to do so, I needed to study related to this. As everyone knows, however, media-related studies had to be done in clubs or on their own. Because there are no related subjects. So I think I tried to look up a lot of related videos and look up the current media and implications.

WEEK 9: Why inequality creates disorder?

The relationship between inequality and disorder can be found in Russo's theory of human inequality origin. Fence on a piece of land and declare, "This land belongs to me!" reveals that equality has been broken and a terrible disorder has arisen. In other words, he said inequality occurred as humans became social. I saw that things like domination and violence originated from ownership. In other words, it is considered that others dominate others like material possessions, and equality is broken and disorder is caused. An example of inequality creating disorder can also be made in the process of seeking equality. For example, there are those who have more opportunities and those who don't. So if someone who can control it gives more opportunities to those who don't have many opportunities, or if they reduce others' chances, it will be a complaint to those who have many opportunities, and if these cases increase, it could lead to a growing backlash from those ...

WEEK 9 : Color pink is associated with girls . why?

This is also a child's will, but it is said to be largely influenced by society, family, and groups. In other words, a child may want to buy something pink, but this is not a child's inclination, but rather a person's being encouraged to like it. It is said that the symbol of red and pink color that means women was a social product and a historical one. In other words, it is not universal because it is only applicable to certain times. For example, among European aristocrats in the past, boys were heavily dressed in red. It is said that women are thought to be related to pink objects, and that what is symbolized was established after the mid-20th century. It started with toy vendors judging that it would be more profitable to have different tastes for boys and girls.Or what appears in the media also affects. We can see and heard division of women and men by the color in the obstetrics and gynecology when women were pregnant.Women can heard that, when the baby is predicted ...

WEEK 9 : Why people cooperate with one another?

Image
I think it's because it's in your interest to cooperate. For example, it would be good to think about the hunting of primitive humans. In some cases, people could hunt alone, but when they had to hunt animals larger than their own size, tribes joined forces to hunt. This is beneficial because working together to hunt brings food to tribes, but it also has the advantage that individuals can succeed in hunting less dangerously. If one's own interests are not necessarily the reason, one may cooperate for the development of society or for the development of a group. In the above example of tribe, there may be people who do it for tribal food hunting. I think the representative example of today's collaboration for collective development is the company. This is because they perform common tasks for the development of the company. As a result, I think that cooperation makes life easier, good for me, and good for society.

WEEK 9-1 : Introduction to Sociology/Socialization

1.SUMMARY Socialization is a basic sociological concept. Sociology aims for three things. It is the development of impulse control and conscience, the preparation and performance of career roles, and the learning of important things. Socialization is the process of preparing for social life. However, this varies depending on the culture. Therefore, evaluation and judgment should not be forced. In addition, one should not be mistaken for learning all aspects of human behavior in socialization. Socialization is generally divided into two parts. Primary socialization takes place in childhood. Secondary socialization is achieved when you become a member of a group that needs further socialization or meet new people. Mortimer and Simmons explain three ways these two socializations differ. It's a priority. Socialization in adolescence focuses on self-image development. But socialization as an adult involves both specific and superficial things, such as career roles. Second, conte...

WEEK 8-2 : Government

1.SUMMARY Government refers to groups or people who dominate society. The government consists of the legislature, the administration and the judiciary. Governments exist in all types of organizations. The British Revolution, the American Revolution and the French Revolution are representative examples of contributions to the change of government form. The government has an ideal form. However, the government's self-awareness is not objective and may include distortions and prejudices. There is a clear difference between the type of government and the individual's opinion on its characteristics. There are autocracy, aristocracy, democracy, and republics in the form of government. An autocracy is a system in which one person is the most powerful, and is not affected by public backlash. An aristocracy is a term referring to the form of power dominated by certain aristocratic classes. Democracy is a government system in which citizens exercise power through voting with so...
