Make up class) What I did learn from this class?

What I did learn from this class? I learned the social imagination through the class. The theories of various sociologists have broadened the scope of thinking. I learned about function theory, conflict theory, symbolic interaction theory and various perspectives of reading society. I also learned how to do scientific research. You know what research methods are appropriate under what circumstances. They also recognized the importance of research ethics. I learned about culture, religion, economics, politics, history, etc. In the process, I realized the importance of the environment. I have also developed a way to accept diversity in its own right. Learning about socialization, social relationships, and interactions, I looked back on my life. I thought about what kind of group I belong to and what kind of social role I have. I learned about feminism and race. In the process, I thought about the discrimination that is happening in Korea or in the world. It was easier to understand the...

extra) What is more important: the actions of individuals or the environment that influences them?

What is more important: the actions of individuals or the environment that influences them? I think the social environment is more important than the individual' In the social environment, individuals experience and learn socialization. In a misogynistic society, individuals learn and perform misogyny. On the contrary, in a gender-equal society, individuals naturally think and act gender-equal. Therefore, for the society that goes together, I think the environment should be the basis.

extra) Why men and women chose different fields to study?

Why men and women chose different fields to study? First, it is because there is a lack of female role models. Scientists, programmers, athletes, firefighters and others in the media are all men. Most of the jobs that require strength and science are men. Young women naturally think, 'Only men go to natural sciences' and 'The hard work belongs to men.' Second, women are socialized to have family jobs. Many women become nurses, teachers, and stewardesses. And young women grow up looking at them. The world says that those  jobs are good jobs to get married. Women naturally choose a job that take care of others or a job that they always have to smile brightly.

extra) How are foreigners treated in Korea?

How are foreigners treated in Korea? In Korea, foreigners are treated differently depending on their country of origin. The Chinese are called jjanggae, and are discriminated against. Southeast Asians are also discriminated. People look up to white people. And Westerners and Korean families are not called multicultural families. We call Southeast Asian and Korean families mostly multicultural. Korea pretends not to discriminate, but it is discriminating.

extra 13 week) What is expected of men and women in home and workplace?

Image
Women must do housework at home, regardless of whether they have a job or not. A woman takes care of a child, cleans, cooks, and does laundry. Men sometimes wash the dishes. And flaunt it. (Even though he did what he had to do.) I haven't worked yet, so I don't know the difference between men and women. However, men are asked to carry heavy things. Bosses make women do chores such as making coffee. Housework should be equal. Even at work, people should not assign jobs  or give chores  by gender.

extra 13 week) What toys are marketed for boys and what for girls?

Image
A girl's toy is pink and a boy's toy is blue. The girl plays with dolls such as Barbie and Kongsooni. A boy plays with a car and a robot. The girl plays her role, makeup, and kitchen. The boy plays in the playground. This is how society teaches. And when children deviate from this norm, they get unusual treatment. The education of society and the marketing of the toy market must be revised gender equality.

extra 13 week) What other gendered cultural symbols can we think of?

Image
What other gendered cultural symbols can we think of?   This is a symbol full of prejudice. But it is the most common symbol. We can see this symbol in a variety of places, including restrooms and restrooms. But not all men like blue, not all women like red. Not all women wear skirts, not all men wear pants. This symbol that we often encounter must be modified to make society more comprehensive.

Makeup class 2 ) Introduction to Sociology/Demography

Introduction to Sociology/Demography 1. Summary Demographics is the study of population dynamics.  It studies the overall population, including population size, structure, distribution, birth, and death.  With demographics, we can see sociological phenomena in a macro- or micro. Demographics rely on large-scale collection and analysis over a long period of time. By analyzing the data, we can learn about birth rates, mortality, child poverty, unemployment, GDP, and so on. Based on this, we can decide on policies and plan for future social phenomena. 2. Interesting Various graphs related to demographics were impressive. Because I remembered the career break graph of women I collected and visualized in the Basis of Datascience course. 3. Discussion Have you ever collected or analyzed demographics? If so, when?

Makeup class 1 ) Introduction to Sociology/Technology, the Internet, and Virtual Worlds

Introduction to Sociology/Technology, the Internet, and Virtual Worlds 1. Summary Technology is used to achieve goals such as the production of goods and services, and scientific research. Technology refers to knowledge that facilitates production. Often, however, the product of technology is also called technology because it helps achieve goals. A famous example of modern technology is cell phones. In the past, it used to be a public phone, a landline phone, etc., but now most people use smartphones. Smartphones are a technology that makes human life easier. Smartphones boost the social network and game market. 2. Interesting The issue of gender discrimination related to Facebook profile pictures was interesting.  Additionally, I think women spend money on cosmetics, pretty food, pretty places, and wear corsets to decorate SNS feeds. 3. Discussion What do you think is the most innovative technology?

13-2) Introduction to Sociology/Race and Ethnicity

Introduction to Sociology/Race and Ethnicity 1.Summary Race is a group of humans considered to be in some way distinct from other humans based on actual or imagined physical differences. Racial classification is based on the biological classification of humans by morphological characteristics such as skin color and facial color. Race forms a social hierarchy that affects an individual's social identity. So this is an important problem. Nationality refers to the social characteristics shared by humans such as nationality, tribe, religious belief, official language, sharing culture, and sharing tradition. Unlike race, ethnicity is not defined externally by other individuals. Some scholars regard race as a social structure. But this means that race is nothing more than an artificial distinction created by humans (for example, the word black and colored is an artificial distinction created from the point of view of Westerners with white skin). Therefore, many social scientists ad...

13-1) Introduction to Sociology/Gender

Introduction to Sociology/Gender 1. Summary Sex and gender are distinct concepts. Gender refers to sociocultural-defined femininity and masculinity. If the biological gender matches the gender, it is the cisgender. Those who don't match are transgender. Our society, which is faithful to gender dichotomy, does not recognize it. There are many conflicts in society about transgender people. Also, there is a lot of discrimination in our gender-differentiated society. The most detailed examples are labor and education. Women's work is considered inferior to men, and receives lower wages. Most men are in high places. In the old days, education was a property of men. Men earned higher degrees, and went on to college more. Women are now being educated at a high level. However, some families still make a difference in the education of boys and girls. 2. Interesting The story of gender discrimination in the media was interesting. This is because Korea is the same goes for Ko...

12-2) Social inequality

Social inequality 1. Summary Social inequality occurs when the resources of society are distributed unevenly. It is discrimination against access by power, religion, kinship, prestige, race, ethnicity, gender, age, sexual orientation, class. There is no society without social inequality. Social inequality is formed by various structural factors in all societies. There are five types of social inequality. (wealth inequality, treatment and responsibility inequality, political inequality, life inequality, and membership inequality.) Social inequality raises philosophical questions about desirability or inevitability. There is a pattern in inequality. There are many features that contribute to equality and inequality in society. Social inequality raises philosophical questions about desirability or inevitability. There is a pattern in inequality. There are many features that contribute to equality and inequality in society. Inequality is generally not positively related to ...

12-1) Social stratification

Social stratification 1. Summary Social stratification refers to the grouping of people based on socio-economic factors such as wealth, income, race, education, gender, occupation and social status. Layering is the 'relative' social status of people belonging to a social group, category, geographical region, or social unit. Social stratification has complexity and social mobility. The theory of stratification was discussed by scholars such as Karl Marx, Max Weber, and Wright Mills. Social stratification analyzes economic inequality, social status, gender inequality, racism, nationalism, etc. 2. Interesting Among social stratification, gender was the most interesting part. In the article, the gender distinction is identified in the economic, blood-related and cost-based stratification system. In fact, economically, women are excluded because they are considered inferior to men. Women's wages are lower than men's, and women's employment rates are lower than m...

11-2) Dramaturgy

Dramaturgy (sociology) 1. Summary Dramaturgy is one of the microsocial explanations of social interactions in everyday life. The term was first used through 'Gopman'. He argued that our society is a theater, and that individuals are actors and perform the roles given to them. Dramaturgy said that an individual's identity is not a stable and independent entity, but rather interacts with others and continues to be recreated. Individuals behave differently in front of the stage, behind the stage, off the stage, and on all its boundaries. There are secrets that must be kept in order for the play to be carried out well. 2. Interesting "Performers may communicate out of character on purpose, to signal to others on their team, or by accident." is interesting. Examples of these are gossip, complaints, contemptuous attitudes, etc. As if this attitude in the play would make a problem, in fact, this attitude makes a problem with the interaction between people. 3. D...

11-1) Symbolic interactionism

Symbolic interactionism 1. Summary Symbolic interaction is one of several theories of social science. People interact, form, and communicate through symbols. Repetitive interactions tell us whether a society is formed and maintained. Also, since individuals act on a common understanding within the social context, interactions and actions are organized through a common understanding. Most commercial interaction theorists believe that physical reality exists by individual social justice and that social justice has evolved in relation to reality. There are three premises of social interaction. First, humans act on the basis of meaning for things. Second, the meaning of things is formed through the interaction of others and society. Third, meanings are constantly addressed and modified in the interpretation process. And there are five central ideas. The central theme of symbolic interaction is human-organization, interactive decision-making, symbolization, and emergence. Howev...

10-2)Social network

Social network 1. Summary Social networks are social structures created by social actors (individuals or organizations), their relationships, and other social interactions. Social networks have academic characteristics related to social psychology, sociology, statistics, etc. Emil Dirkheim and Ferdinand Tonys analyzed social networks through social group research in the late 1890s. By the 1930s, social networks were discussed in various fields, including psychology, anthropology, and mathematics. In the late 1990s, research on 'online' social networks as well as face-to-face networks was noticed. Social networks are very diverse and complex. Therefore, it is classified by size according to the level of analysis. The micro-level focuses on individuals and minorities. The meso level is medium and analyzes the groups and individuals between the micro level and the macro level. The macro level tracks the interaction results from a macro perspective. The theories for social n...

10-1) Introduction to Sociology/Social Structure

Introduction to Sociology/Social Structure 1. Summary A social structure refers to a lasting relationship or bond between individuals or groups. Social structure includes politics, law, and culture. The social structure focuses on different roles, functions, meanings, purposes, etc. between groups. An important example of social structure is the phenomenon of 'social stratification'. It is the idea that society is divided into different classes according to the classification of race, class, generation, disability, gender, etc. In various social structures, people are treated according to their class. The social structure continues the behavior patterns of individuals and groups. Some people believe that social structures occur and develop naturally. The 'concept' of social structure can hide systematic prejudice. This is because it consists of many identifiable subgenetic factors, for example, sex. Some argue that men and women with the same qualifications are...

9-2) Introduction to Sociology/Deviance

Introduction to Sociology/Deviance 1. Summary Deviation is an act that violates a society's cultural norms. The norm is a social expectation that leads to human behavior. Deviation is divided into official deviations such as crime and unofficial deviations such as snoring. Thus deviation is very relative to culture, age, and location. In region A, deviant behavior may not be deviant in region B. The deviance can be explained by many theories. Psychology, structural functionalism, conflict theory and labeling theory all explain deviant behavior similarly but differently. 2. Interesting The rape rate graph around the world was very shocking. In Korea, sexual violence crimes against women by male perpetrators are also very common. But I'm very angry at the fact that women are being raped in many other countries besides our own. I hope there will be no rape crimes based on the power imbalance. In order for this to not happen, our constant criticism and surveillance are...

9-1) Introduction to Sociology/Socialization

Introduction to Sociology/Socialization 1. Summary Socialization is the process of preparing human beings for good social life. Socialization is relative to the times, cultures and places. Socialization is generally divided into two parts. Primary socialization takes place early in life as a child and a teenager. Secondary socialization occurs when additional socialization is needed. Socialization takes place throughout life. Socialization is very important. People explain the importance of socialization, citing the example of a child abandoned in the wild. 2. Interesting It was interesting that socialization lasted throughout life. We go through a constant learning process. We interact and interact in social groups all our lives. And times and technologies change. We must study, in line with changing times and techniques. Social relationships should also change accordingly. 3. Discussion Which social group do you belong to now? And what socialization process did you...

extra)Can we think of other ways the society tells us how different things are expected from boys and girls?

Can we think of other ways the society tells us how different things are expected from boys and girls? Girls play with dolls, boys play with balls. The girl wears a skirt and the boy wears pants. Girls should hide their feelings from their loved ones, and boys are allowed to express their feelings as harassment. A girl shouldn't make a claim, and a boy can make a claim. In the opposite case of every situation, children are blamed. In this society girls are naturally be a feminist. Feminism is a natural exercise, despite being educated boys like that be anti feminist. It's very unfortunate. We have to work hard on the media, education, the country, and the home to stop these extremes.
