1. Summary

The Free Culture Movement was initiated by Stewart Brand, who founded Whole Earth Catalog. He opposes restrictions on access to information by the government and has put forward the slogan "Information wants to be free."

There's a joke that if a survivor of a desert island makes Mickey Mouse shape by pebble on the beach, Disney will rescue him to sue. The Sony Bono Copyright Term Extension Act, which protects the copyright period of 70 years after the death of a producer, also known as the Mickey Mouse Protection Act, become one of the cause for launching a free cultural movement.

Many organization related to free culture say that monopolizing copyrights suppress society and is unjustified. Richard Stallman, a founder of the Free Software Foundation, is also engaged in a free software movement, a kind of free culture. His influence in the field of free software is immense, and in fact he is the founder of the free software movement.

2. Interesting

When I read the intro part, one man floated into my mind, he is Richard Stallman. He is a great man with great influence in the field of software. I already know him because my second major is computer&software. As I expected, he appeared in this document, and it was interesting to me. In fact, I still don't know the Free Culture Movement (and the Free Software Movement) is right or not. There is the open-source software culture in the software field that is slightly different from the free software movement. Richard Stallman criticizes the open-source software culture because it is less free than the free-source software movement. I think, maybe I should learn it more to judge correctly.

3. Discussion

Free culture movement has a different from mainstream market logic. Is the Free Culture Movement Right? What is the basis for judging right or wrong? I wonder this.
