Week 11-1. Symbolic interactionism
1. Summary
Symbolic interaction is a sociological theory that creates images and general meanings for reasoning and communication with others. In other words, symbolic interaction is a framework of reference to better understand how individuals interact with each other to create a symbolic world, and in return, how these worlds shape individual behavior. This is a framework that helps us understand how society is preserved and created through repeated interactions between individuals. Interaction-to-interaction analytical processes help create and reproduce meanings. Influencing interactions between individuals is a common understanding and interpretation of meaning. Individuals act on the premise of a common understanding of meaning within their social context. Let me explain three things that make up symbolic interaction. First, individuals form meanings through the process of communication. Second, pride is motivation for action. Third, there is a unique relationship between individuals and society.
2. Interesting
I found the content of five key ideas about symbolic interaction interesting. First, humans should be understood as social people. Second, humans should be understood as thinking beings. Third, humans do not directly sense their environment, but instead humans define the situation they are in. Fourth, the cause of human behavior is the result of what is happening in our present situation. Finally, humans are described as active beings in relation to the environment.
3. Discussion
Do you know any specific examples of symbolic interactions?
