WEEK 11 : Symbolic interactionism

1. SUMMARY
The symbolic interaction was designed by George Herbert Mead. The mind means the ability of an individual to use symbols to attach meaning. Self represents an individual's ability to reflect the way an individual is perceived by others. Society is the place where interaction takes place. Herbert Blumer, Mead's student, coined the term symbolic interaction.
Symbolic interactions consist of communication, self-concept, and relationships between individuals and society. Symbolic interaction has five central ideas. Man must be understood as a social and thinking being. Human must define their situation. The cause of human behavior is the result of what has happened in the present situation. Humans are described as active beings in relation to the environment.
Snow uses human agencies, interactive determination, symbolization and emergence.
New media is used to define everything related to interaction. The theory of symbolic interactionists is pointed out to be unsystematic. It cannot be quantitatively determined.
Symbolic interaction is related to social structure. The composition of people's social reality is a symbolic interaction.

2. INTERESTING
It was interesting that new media is a term for understanding symbolic interactions. It is said that it is the new media that shows many areas of the online community. I thought that communication within the community constitutes a symbolic interaction. However, it is said that it can have different meanings depending on the way and system in which the actual community is formed. It was all more amazing because I had never thought about how to build a fundamental community.

3. DISCUSSION
It is said that symbolic interactions are criticized for being unsystematic. I would have refuted this, but I wonder what the rebuttal claim is.
