 Topics in Sociology_Government

1. Summarize in my own words of materials I read.

A government is a system or group that organizes and controls society. Governments generally consist of the legislature, the administration, and the judiciary. Make laws in the legislature, enforce laws in the administration, and make judgments and punishments in the judiciary.
There are many forms of government include ‘Monarchy’, Aristocracy’, ‘Timocracy’, ‘Oligarchy’, ‘Democracy’, ‘Theocracy’, and ‘Tyranny’. The main philosophy of government is dealing about “How to get political power”, and the two main methods are ‘electoral contest’ and ‘hereditary succession’. Also there are ‘Libertarianism’ and ‘Anarchism’ that pursue limit or abolish government and finding self-organization and freedom.
One way to classify government is through 'which people have the authority to rule'. According to article, it can be either one person, or the people as a whole group. This includes Autocracy, Aristocracy, Democracy, Republics, and Federalism.

2. Mention of any new, interesting or unusual items learned.

It was interesting that historically, most political system belongs to socioeconomic ideologies. The article says that "Experience with those movements in power and the strong ties they may have to particular forms of government can cause them to be considered as forms of government in themselves", and explaining about economic systems too. I can learn about relates between political (government) and economics. Also color map with distinguishing such various things helped me to see at a glance about various system of governments in the world.

3. Identify at least one question, concern, or discussion angle that is either problematic in some respect or could have been elaborated more.

There is no particular type favored in the form of government, so I don't think there are good or bad, right or wrong. I am particularly satisfied with the type of government in our country. I wonder what other friends think.
