Week 9-1. Introduction to Sociology/Socialization

1. Summary

Socialization is a basic sociological concept. Socialization consists of many factors, and each sociologist has a different opinion on what is the most important factor. Arnett talked about three goals of socialization. The first is impulse control and the development of a conscience. The second is role preparation and performance, including occupational roles, gender roles, and roles in institutions such as marriage and parenthood. Last is the cultivation of sources of meaning, or what is important, valued, and to be lived for. To sum up, socialization is the process of preparing humans to function in social life. And socialization is generally divided into two parts. Primary socialization occurs in the early stages of life, young children and adolescents. Secondary socialization occurs when you meet a new group that requires additional socialization.

2. Interesting

I found the content about the importance of socialization interesting. I've seen a video of a woman who grew up with dogs running around on all fours even after she became an adult. I saw the video and thought about the influence of socialization. I have learned from birth that not everyone can live like a human being, but that they need to acquire skills through socialization.

3. Discussion

In what way are you sociable?
