Social Inequality

1. Summary

-      Social inequality occurs when resources in a given society are generally unevenly distributed through allocation norms, leading to certain patterns along the lines of people in socially defined categories. It is the discriminatory preference for access to social goods in society caused by power, religion, relatives, fame, race, ethnicity, gender, age, sexual orientation and class. Social inequality generally means a lack of equality of outcomes, but can be conceptualized in terms of a lack of equal access to opportunities. The five systems or types of social inequality are wealth inequality, treatment and accountability inequality, political inequality, life inequality, and member inequality. Social stratification refers to the hierarchical arrangement of society on social class, wealth and political influence. There are many socially defined characteristics of an individual that contribute to social status, equality or inequality within society. Sex as social inequality is how men and women are treated differently by men and women by sharing labor, assigning roles, assigning responsibilities, and allocating social rewards. Racial or ethnic inequality is the result of hierarchical social differences between racial and racial categories within society. Health inequality is defined as the difference in health status or the distribution of health determinants among different population groups. World inequality also exists because the world economy has developed unevenly and historically differently. This can be seen through GDP and Gini coefficient.
