Week 13-2. Race and Ethnicity

1. Summary

Race is the physical difference of the human population that is thought to be distinct in some way from one person to another, either real or imagined. Racial classification is attributed to the idea of human biological classification, depending on the morphological features of the skin's color or face. Individuals are generally classified into external groups, not individuals who choose to belong as part of their identity. From the seventeenth century, the first scientific attempt to classify races was made, and these early attempts developed with European imperialism and colonization around the world. Race continues to discuss academic areas about how to understand learning. Some sociologists and biologists believe that race is a social construct. In other words, there is no foundation in the natural world, but it is simply a man-made artificial distinction. However, some sociologists (and other researchers) still believe that race is a valid and useful measure when understood as a fuzzy set, cluster or large family. There is discrimination and prejudice caused by this race. Racism is perceived by many as an affection for basic human dignity and a violation of human rights. Racism opposes almost every mainstream voice in the United States. Many international treaties are working to end racial discrimination.

2. Interesting

The study of race in biology and genetics was interesting. Some sociologists (and other researchers) still believe that race is a valid and useful measure when understood as a fuzzy set, cluster or large family. Based on these beliefs and the development of genetic modeling software programs, some scientists argue that genetic data can be used to infer population structures and assign individuals to groups that often correspond to self-identified geographical ancestry. Recent research suggests that self-described races are at least a very good indicator of an individual's genetic profile in the United States.

3. Discuss

What efforts can we make to end racial discrimination?

Comments

  1. It is to see a person as he or she is to see a person in person. Different races mean foreigners in some ways, and it would be better not to think of them as objects of curiosity or judgment.
