Week 13-5. Gender roles – or what is expected of men and women in home and workplace?

In society, the underlying sexual role clearly exists. I think that women should focus on housework and parenting, and men should work at work. This did not take into account the individual's aptitude and circumstances. This is oppressive and burdensome for the individual. There is no gender difference between housework, parenting, and work. It is merely a projection of the consciousness universally considered by society. Korea has reduced this gender stereotype more than before, but it has not disappeared completely. Still, women feel more pressure on household chores and parenting than men, and men feel more pressure to make money as heads. This is from the previous generation and is the result of unconscious injection from childhood. Work and family should be distributed equally through mutual respect regardless of gender, and should be tailored to individual characteristics and aptitudes rather than social stereotypes.

  1. I agree. There are men who do childcare or housework, and women who focus more on work. This is a personal choice and society should not impose.
