Week13: What toys are marketed for boys and what for girls?
Usually,
toys are distinguished between toys that girls play with and toys that boys
play with. It can be distinguished by its appearance and purpose, but what can
be distinguished conspicuously is its color. Usually, boys' items or toys have
many colors such as blue and green, and girls' items or toys have many pink and
yellow. It seems that it has become common in modern society to distinguish
women from men by color since they were so young, and this is the effect of
familiarity that allows them to accept the distinction between men and women
when they grow up. And for girls, toys like dolls and house games are sold a
lot, and boys are sold a lot of dynamic toys such as Lego, ball, and top. But
you have to know that this is only universal and not all children do. Toy
sellers should market with these considerations, but I think they should
consider both sexes by changing toys that girls can play with, such as balls
and Lego, that boys and girls can play with.
I think this familiarity effect has a big impact on gender stereotypes. You can also find this gender classification in the packaging of toys. Models of toys such as doll play are girls, and models of toys such as cars are boys.
