WEEK 2. The additional task

Why boys are louder than girls? Speaking from my experience, I always was on the louder side regardless of gender. I like myself, but the people around sometimes said 'hey, please act like girl.' or 'you're so bossy.' When I was young, I think I am a girl like a boy. I didn't change my character, but the word 'you look like a man' made me feel intimidated. Almost girl thinks like me. Almost girls learned that ' always be quiet, pretty, act with prudence.' A similar situation would have been applied to the boys. 'always be strong, don't cry.' As such, so boys are louder than girls. Now, we must cut this vicious circle. We study gender sensibility, feminism, etc. Being 'loud' should be just a characteristic of a person. not sex.

EXTRA) Why study history?

One of  Helena Norberg Hodge's books is The Ancient Future. Ancient future, contradictory word. I think history, like the word "Ancient future," is about looking at the old and finding direction for the future that we need to move on. Learning history gives us a perspective on how we view and deal with society.  It can also create a better future without repeating past mistakes.

Introduction to Sociology / Sociological Methods

1. Summary -       This article introduces the methods used by sociologists in social life research. There are dozens of ways to claim that humans gain knowledge. Examples include authority, experience, logic, tradition, Revelation, and science. Correlation represents the relationship between two or more variables that change together. Causality refers to the relationship between two or more variables where one variable causes another. Quantitative and qualitative approaches are complementary. The positivist approach attempts to explain and predict social phenomena and uses reasoning. The qualitative sociology approach aims to understand culture or phenomena in itself. Qualitative sociologists take time to repeatedly observe the phenomenon under study and make inductive reasoning. Essential elements of the scientific method are characterization, hypothesis, prediction, repetition and recursion of tests. The hypothesis includes a suggested explanation of the s...

WEEK 2_1. Introduction to Sociology / Being a Sociologist

1. Summary here is no particular personality type among sociology majors. Sociology majors are highly satisfied with their degrees in sociology. They also feel confident about their ability to interpret data analysis results and use statistical software. Having a bachelor's degree in sociology can contribute to the workplace with insight. There are also various fields of study in sociology, such as education, counseling and criminology. 2. Interesting Personally, I really like the personality test called MBTI, which is interesting to me that there is no particular type among sociology majors. Are there really no special personality types among sociology majors? 3. Discussion We have entered the department of information society media and are learning sociology. So what contribution can we make to society? :)

Week_2-4.Why some countries have more driving accidents?

Why some countries have more driving accidents? Crosswalk Photo by Pixabay free image (https://pixabay.com/images/id-1661474/) I think the social consensus is the biggest point. Let me take an example of Korea where I live. The first point , in Korea, drivers don't really care about the safety of pedestrians. We all have experience using a crosswalk without a traffic light. This place is very dangerous. Most cars pass by here at a rapid pace, whether or not there are people. On the other hand, there is a culture in some foreign countries drivers stop when they see people, whether they have traffic lights or not, whether light is red or green. This social consensus tends to prevent drivers from speeding, and will further reduce traffic accidents. The second point , the driver's license is issued indiscriminately. In the recent decade, bad drivers increased. This is because the government has drastically reduced the difficulty of the driver's license test. Some p...

Week 2-2. (extra) Why do so few citizens choose to vote?

Why do so few citizens choose to vote? About a month later, I have my first-ever parliamentary election. I look forward to the day very much. The country tries to raise voter turnout, but not many people vote in each election. Why only some citizens vote when the votes are given to everyone equally?  First, citizens do not believe in pledges. Many candidates in the past have lost faith in their pledges. Citizens don't think it makes any difference whether they vote or not.  I also think there is a reason for the lack of education in the low turnout. There is no place to properly teach citizens how the political process works, and citizens are in a situation where it is difficult to pay particular attention to voting or politics. Therefore, I think this vicious cycle continues.  In order to raise voter turnout, I think the first thing in the country is to create a system to educate people about what happens if they vote wrong and why they should vote. Currently,...

WEEK 2. Sociological methods

1. Summary Sociologists use observations, hypothesis reasoning and inductive methods to understand and ultimately develop descriptions of social phenomena in the form of theories. The scientific method is carried out through four stages of iteration-specificization, hypothesis, prediction, test-and recursion. On the other hand, in scientific methods we should also look at correlation and causality. Correlations represent relationships between two or more variables that change together. A causal relationship represents the relationship between two or more variables that one variable causes another. There is a quantitative approach, a qualitative approach to sociological research. The benefits can only be seen when these two approaches are combined. There are also three points of view in sociological research. There is an objective view, a critical view, and a subjective view. Ethics is especially important because the subject of sociological research is mostly people. The most importa...
