Introduction to Sociology/Culture

1. Summary

Culture is the non-biological or social aspect of human life, and basically all that humans learn is part of culture. Culture generally encompasses stories, beliefs, media, ideas, works of art, religious practice, fashion, consciousness, expertise and common sense culture, the meaning given to objects and symbols, and norms, values and beliefs that permeate social life. In the past, culture referred to elite goods and activities. This is called a higher culture. In the Romantic era, German scholars, particularly interested in nationalism, developed a more comprehensive concept of culture as a worldview. By the late 19th century, anthropologists had changed the concept of culture to include more diverse societies, and ultimately created the concept of current culture. Subculture is a culture shared and actively participated by ethnic minorities within a broader culture. Culture often includes numerous subculture. Subculture brings together the same-minded people who feel alienated by social standards to develop their identity. Ethnicism is primarily a tendency to look at the world from the perspective of one's own culture. Nationalism often involves the belief that one's people or people are the most important and/or other people. Cultural relativism is the belief that the concept and value of culture cannot be fully translated into another language or fully understood.

2. Interesting

It was interesting that the definition of culture was not set at once, but completed over a long period of time. Also, I think that the fact that such a defined culture is interpreted from various perspectives in modern times shows the characteristics of sociology that is not defined exactly as one thing.

3. Discussion

What are the characteristics of the entertainment culture that we usually enjoy?

Comments

  1. I think entertainment culture commonly have convenience 'through developed technology'. For example, we can play games with internet or smartphone without any strong limitation. Also, we can watch Netflix or YouTube anytime and anywhere.
