Midterm essay : Changes in Korea society

Currently, there are some big changes underway in Korean society.

First, it's the Korean Wave. The Korean Wave, which had been triggered by "Winter Sonata," and the Korean Wave, which had expanded to Asia and the Middle East, led to "Daejanggeum," were the early scenes of the Korean Wave. It was followed by the K-pop craze, which spread not only to Europe but also to South America by Girls' Generation, Big Bang, and Super Junior, which was the second scene of the Korean Wave. In the meantime, the biggest market for pop culture, the United States, remained firm. However, Psy appeared and shook the U.S. pop market once with "Gangnam Style," opening the door for the U.S. mainland, where BTS' global fandom and Academy Awards for "Parasite" were high.
The U.S. market, once considered a distant and insurmountable barrier, has now emerged as a new stage for the Korean Wave. Another artist from K-pop began tapping the U.S. market with the path BTS made, and interest in Korean films itself surged due to "parasites." Director Bong's "Snowpiercer" and "Parasite" will be dramatized, which will also lead to global interest in Korean dramas.
Thus, the new millennial generation global fandom, which was created based on digital, is now becoming a new direction for the Korean Wave. Their characteristics are not obvious, unique, unique, and highly complete. Above all, it is captivated by the content that wants to overthrow the paradigm, which changes from local to global, to catharsis. So the global universality that Hollywood blockbusters have always portrayed becomes boring for them. Rather, it contains a different local sensibility, but most of all, it is more fascinated by the fun and high-quality content.
K-pop, which fills the absence of an idol group that has disappeared from the pop market with high-quality songs and dances, shakes the hearts of global fandom and captures the global era of polarization with its unique sense of humor, although local colors are strong like "parasites." Now, the Korean Wave has gone beyond the stage of entering the U.S. or Europe. And this is not just the story of hallyu. In the future, various local tastes wars over global fandom are expected to become a fierce battleground for the Korean Wave. It is the beginning of the post-hallyu, and is gradually evolving and changing in a better direction.

Secondly, it is the deepening "gender conflict." Assault at Isu Station, controversy over rapper San E's misogyny, controversy over Yes24's expression of "Hannam"... Little sex be ‘feminism’ in this conflict exploding every day and talked about. Recently, it was also pointed out as the reason for the decline in presidential approval ratings. What is feminism? Unlike what is often misused online, feminism, is gender equality contains, or ‘on the grounds of sexuality should not discriminate against people.’ is a clear and simple meaning. Overseas as commonsensical as the prohibition of racial discrimination, why feminism is toxic in this country treated like a threatening idea?
The reason is that men and women do not understand each other's lives. The novel "Kim Ji-young Born in 1982," which deals with discrimination against women, received reviews as "documentary" for women and "fantasy" for men. Moon Jae-in president's declaration of ‘feminist president’ also solved reverse discrimination against women is the government's cynical to their government, while men are saying the withdrawal of support.Even pronounce. This phenomenon suggests that women and men living in the same country, in the same era, live in a completely different world.
The problem is that the conflict between the position of pursuing change and the position of not understanding it is spreading to the aspect of consuming "unhappy confrontation," and I think it is moving in a negative direction. A case in point is the controversy over rapper San E. San e the song, “Why, didn't, get the military is if you want the right so when money is why I have my date, subway, bus and went over all make way for parking place” at ‘feminist’.Men complained about the burden. SLEEQ, a female rapper who released the song "EQUALIST" refuting this, said, "What do I want? Don't kill, don't rape, don't assault... Don't deport me out of the system, asking me to blame the system," he responded.

Third, Park Geun-hye past president of the impeachment the protests. Beyond the simple meaning of a new method of protest, candlelight vigils gathered on certain issues can be seen as a new civic movement in itself, as evidenced by the expression "Candlelight Movement, Candlelight Democracy." In particular, in Korean society, where the culture of the plaza is weak, it is moving in a positive direction as it has the effect of expressing political will, exercising political power of citizens, and learning democracy through this. However, there is a limit that it cannot lead to an institutional alternative.

Finally, there is a worldwide problem with the Corona 19. Although careful and careful analysis is required as it is a real-time history, many scholars predict that the economic impact of Corona 19 will lead to the Great Depression and the third major global economic crisis linking the Great Depression and the Great Recession. Currently, the domestic economy is also stagnant in Korea.
Above all, Daegu Metropolitan City's commercial district, which has the most confirmed cases in Korea, has been hit hard. In particular, "Dongseong-ro" and "Jungang-ro" were reduced to the level of early morning on weekdays even when they should be crowded with people, so there were a number of stores in Daegu and other markets that decided to close on the second day after infection.

The prolonged situation has driven self-employed people to the brink. In particular, the damage to self-employed people who entered large shopping malls with high rents and a large floating population is serious. Sales also declined as the number of floating populations decreased by one-tenth of the usual level due to coronavirus infections, and more companies closed their businesses because they could not afford monthly rent and labor costs. Several cafes, restaurants and cosmetics shops that have already entered the Starfield COEX Mall in Gangnam have been closed. Shinsegae Property, which operates Starfield, and Lotte Asset Development, which runs Lotte Mall, each offered a three-month moratorium on rent payments to their store owners as a win-win measure for self-employed businesses, but it is not enough.
However, I think South Korea is moving in a positive direction as it is getting through Corona 19 better than any other country. In particular, the German media praised Korea's handling of Corona 19 as democratic and transparent. The online edition of <Frankpurter Luntshaw> compared China and South Korea's response to Corona 19 in an article titled 'Korea, Testing the Limits of the Rule of Law.' The article introduced a case in Wuhan, China, in which a woman was quarantined in a metal box regardless of her will, explaining the Chinese authorities' compulsory measures.
"The spread of the virus is testing not only the health system but also the freedom of progressive democracy," he said, adding that some groups held rallies in downtown Seoul despite the authorities' ban on rallies. "There is no angry civil society in China and there are no protests criticizing the government," the article said. "There is no independent media outlet to report on party officials dealing with the virus in an opaque manner."
In an article titled "How Is Korea's Corona 19 Spread Out of Control" on February 24, the U.S. weekly magazine Time cited excellent diagnostic capabilities, media coverage, and democratic systems as the backgrounds of many confirmed cases in Korea through interviews with Korean experts. Analysts say that the inspection authorities are showing excellent diagnostic capabilities and the media is also performing surveillance functions, leading to rapid inspections.
In an online article on Feb. 29, Germany's leading weekly magazine, Spiegel, reported that Korea is releasing a large-scale diagnostic test, including a screening survey of Corona 19, including believers in Shincheonji, on the basis of Transparency. "In addition to providing great quality medical services to patients, the Korean government focuses on thorough transparency," the foreign press said. "This approach can provide medical staff around the world with important clues about the new virus." He then diagnosed, "From the start of the Corona 19 crisis, the Korean government has recorded the exact location and date of the confirmed visit." Meanwhile, Scott Gottlieb, former director of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), tweeted on February 22 that "the Korean health authorities' report on Corona 19 is very detailed," sharing statistics on the outbreak in Korea released by the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

These changes have affected me, too. BTS and the movie Parasite have created pride in the culture of Korea. And I learned about the problem of gender discrimination, which I did not realize when I was young, and through candlelight vigils, I learned how to voice my criticism and point out what was wrong. The Corona 19 incident also showed that no matter how difficult the situation may be, we can overcome it if we work together and work together.
