Introduction to Sociology/Deviance

1. Summary

Deviation is any act that violates cultural norms. Deviation is often divided into two types of deviant activity. First, crime is said to be a violation of formally enacted laws and a formality. Class II deviant acts refer to informal social norms, violations of norms not codified by law, and informal deviant behavior. Deviation can vary considerably from culture to culture. If norms are relative, deviations are relative. The theory of deviance includes psychology and biological explanation, social-layer typology, Mertons social transformation theory, structural-functionalism, conflict theory and labeling theory. Crime statistics do not provide a perfect perspective on crime. In particular, the unrealistic image of television makes the public think that crime is more pervasive than it really is.

2. Interesting

It was impressive that deviation was not only a crime but also an act of social antagonism. Also, it was nice to see again the theory that the media we learned last year made the public feel that the crime rate was higher.

3. Discussion

When you put the deviation you experienced into deviance, which deviance is the most similar?
