Midterm essay: Changes in Korea society

Korea is now facing a huge change. In "The Economist's Special Report on Korea," K-POP, regime change, feminism flow, and covid-19 are examples. I would like to delve deeper into feminism among these.
Korea's current feminism began with the "Gangnam Station Murder Case." The Gangnam Station murder case was an incident in which a man killed a woman passing by, and was officially classified as an unsolicited murder (incidental murder without a reason). But the assailant said he killed the victim because she was a woman, and claims began to spread that this was a hate crime, not an unsolicited murder. However, the National Police Agency closed the case with an unsolicited murder, and many women resented it. Since this incident, many women have been exposed to feminism, and a feminist craze has begun in Korea. Of course, there is a reaction to this. The Internet community has become extreme, and social conflicts have arisen between feminists and anti-feminists. The anti-feminist argues that society is rather generous to women, not men, and that men are reversely discriminated against. But whether this is true or not, I think this is a natural phenomenon. According to conflict theory, various conflicts and divisions occur in society, which is an inevitable phenomenon. Also, I think society can develop further through conflict.
In Korea, announcer Lim Hyun-joo made headlines by appearing on the news wearing glasses. This led her to interview many foreign journalists, and she didn't give up her thoughts. Even now, it is natural for male announcers to wear glasses in Korea, but it is considered strange and strange for female announcers to wear them. To break down this small inequality, she appeared on an entertainment show and said, "Wearing glasses is not something to consult with the broadcaster." Also, many female celebrities display feminist books on their SNSs and leave a good influence. Korean society is currently confused by conflicts, but just the fact that various issues of discrimination against women are emerging is a good trend.
So how will this feminist trend affect our society and individuals? I think this has a profound effect on society. Feminism has informed the public of hate crimes against women beyond economic problems such as wage discrimination and glass ceiling, which were taken for granted in the past. Feminists in Korea helped shut down pornographic sites where illegal filming is mainly uploaded, and spread the illegal filming of women's public toilets and made it public. Also, through the MeToo movement, men who used their social status to sexually assault women who were below them were brought to the surface. And it changed its social perception of crime from the perception that the victim should have been careful to the perception that the perpetrator was wrong. The N No. N incident, which has recently become a hot topic in Korea, has also brought feminists to the surface. The N-Bang incident is an incident in which the assailants used telegrams to sexually exploit the victim. N was shocked by the discovery that there were as many as 260,000 members. As such, feminism has publicized many women's discrimination and hatred, and calls for tougher punishment.
Feminism has also greatly influenced fans of game and animation enthusiasts and celebrities. We can witness many illustrations that distort women's bodies while watching games and animations. Female enthusiasts have voiced refutation against this, and recently, a game that did not distort women's bodies has been in the spotlight. In addition, when a female voice actor was unfairly dismissed by wearing a T-shirt saying, "Girls don't need a prince," criticism and boycott of the game also took place. Celebrity fans have also become a trend to demand feedback, not just ignore, if they make misogynistic remarks, even if they are their favorite entertainers.
I've had a big change through feminism. I realized that the Internet term I used just for fun had misogyny, fixed my speech habits, reflected on it, and became aware of the discrimination around me In addition, there was a perception of misogyny beyond discrimination against women. I became sensitive to misogynistic attitudes and crimes such as murder and sexual violence against women in the media and literature. He criticized articles and news that write provocative articles around victims, and even proposed to viewers' bulletin boards if broadcasting contents containing hateful contents for women are released. Also, if a vicious crime against a woman such as No. N occurs and a national petition is posted on the Internet, I agree and shared it with my personal SNS to inform the people around me.
Like this, feminism has greatly changed society and myself. Feminism will continue to strive to break down the lingering misogyny in society, and so will I, myself, myself. I believe that even if there is a backlash of anti-feminism, society will slowly disappear from misogyny.
