Week 11: Dramaturgy (sociology)
1.
Summary
Dramaturgy
is a sociological perspective commonly used in micro-social descriptions of
social interactions in everyday life. A dramatic view is one of several
sociological paradigms separated from other sociological theories because it
analyzes context rather than investigating the causes of human behavior. So
there is a conflict in sociology between the view of Dramaturgy as a theory and
the view of the sociological paradigm. To identify its performance, there are
seven important factors that Goffman proposed.
In this
analysis, teams are individual groups that work together to share a 'party
line' and the steps represent three areas where you can find multiple
individuals with different roles and different information. The steps are
divided into three stages: front, rear, and outer.
And we
have to keep the audience from getting information in many performances, and
some special roles are created to do this. Roles can be divided into three
groups. The first role is to address operational information and team
boundaries. This includes the reporter, thread, and spoiler. The second role is
to promote interaction between the two different teams. The third role is to
mix the front and rear areas.
Dramaturgy
has also been applied to new interdisciplinary areas in the field of academic
research, known as techno self-research. For example, bloggers and readers
share a social environment in the form of online platforms in connection with
blogging that deals with human identity in a technical society. And theater
performances can be applied in all aspects of theater performers.
2.
Interesting
Most
sociological theories investigate the causality of human behavior, and it was
interesting that the dramatic view was not to investigate the causes of human
behavior, but to analyze the context. So it was interesting to read about the
difference of opinion, whether this is a theory or a paradigm.
3.
Discussion
Think
about whether you should see a dramatic view as a theory or a paradigm and tell
me why.
