Make Up 2. Introduction to Sociology/Demography
1. Summary
This article talks about demographics and demographics. Demographics is a study of human demographic dynamics. Demographic analysis may involve small groups defined by criteria such as whole society or education, religion, or ethnicity. Before proposing a complex theory to explain social phenomena at a macro or social level, sociologists should first use demographic indicators for possible explanations. Demographic statistical analysis is a powerful tool for explaining many sociological phenomena. Census statistics rely primarily on large data sets derived from census and registration statistics. Developing trends in demographic indicators, such as birth and mortality, requires a large set of data over a long period of time. Because demographics are interested in changing populations, demographers focus on specific indicators of change. Two of the most important indicators are birth and death rates, and demographers are interested in migration trends or the movement of people from one region to another. Among them, demographic changes are models and theories that explain the low birth rate and the high death rate transition that occurs as part of the nation's economic development. In society, the onset of demographic transition occurs when mortality decreases without a drop in the corresponding birth rate.
Overpopulation presents a scenario in which the population of living species exceeds the carrying capacity of ecological niche markets. Resources are limited, and if the population consumes them, it will be a problem. This could lead to increased child poverty, increased unemployment, lack of arable land, increased unsanitary conditions and increased crime rates. As a solution to this, two positions have been put forward: one is that disease or starvation is a natural means of reducing the population, while the other argues that economic growth is the best way to reduce population growth because economic development can naturally facilitate a demographic shift that leads to a decline in birth rates. However, when the country goes through a demographic transition, some fertility rates will be considerably lower, falling below the replacement level and starting to decrease the population. There is a shortage of population. Population growth is often the driving force behind economic expansion, so population reductions can reduce the country's GDP and economic growth. In a bid to prevent a population shortage caused by the falling birthrate, some of these governments introduce pro-family policies.
In addition, this article also talks about migration and urbanization.
2. Interesting
It was interesting to note that there was a position to say that disease or starvation could be a natural means of reducing the population as a solution to overpopulation. Because disease and hunger are classified as negative phenomena, we have never thought about the positive effects of disease and starvation because they exist. But I thought, "You can think like this."
3. Discuss
The urbanization of Korea has led to the gathering of major personnel in the capital city of Seoul. What do you think about this situation?
