Week 9-1. Introduction to Sociology/Socialization

Introduction to Sociology/Socialization

1. Summary
Socialization is a basic sociological concept consisting of several elements. Socialization is a social process. Therefore, interaction between people is necessary. Socialization occurs as a result of contact with a large number of people and numerous groups. Some of the people who contribute greatly to the socialization process are parents, guardians, friends, schools, brothers and sisters, or other family members, religious clubs and colleagues. Through community activities, humans go through a socialization process. Not all socialization is voluntary or all socialization is successful. There is an institution specifically created to socialize an unsocialized individual. For example, prisons and mental health institutions are designed to socialize by the unsocialized. Socialization is the process of learning how humans function in a particular society.

2. Interesting
It was interesting to see that students who followed the low track (not college preparation) would score lower on IQ tests over time than students who followed the high track (university preparation). It is said that people on lower tracks can actually see a decrease in IQ compared to a possible increase among people on higher tracks. In other words, the track is hilarious in that it socializes students with that role.

3. Discussion
