WK 8.1 Sociology/ Politics - Hanane Ben Abdeslam

Politics is also known as the activity through which people make, preserve and amend the general rules under which they live. It also refers to the process by which groups of people make social economic decisions. This term is applied to behavior within civil governments, but politics has been observed in all human group interactions. Therefore, it consists of social relations involving authority of power, the regulation of political units, and las but not least, the methods and tactics used to formulate and apply social policy. Three key elements combine the character of politics: power, authority and violence. First, power is a type of power by a group in a society which allows that group to decide the distribution of public resources, including labor and wealth. People who have power, are often defined as the ability to influence the behavior of others with or without resistance. Second, authority is used in the government. The term refers to claim a legitimacy, the justification and right to exercise power. Final, violence could force people to behave in certain ways. Refusal to follow rules or orders can result in the government using violence to individuals in a not so nice way. When I talk about the government, I want you to know that there are different kinds of governments, because some governments type is not only ruled by people with power, but also by citizens, this is called democracy. Another type of a government is a monarchy, which is a form of government in which supreme power is ruled by an individual, for example Queen Elizabeth II, the Queen of the United Kingdom. Hereby she only can make decisions in politics.

What is new to me is that there are different types of government, the one is more dominant than the other. I knew that not every country has the same political process but I didn’t know how many kinds there were. Hereby, I’ve been digging in my own country’s political process and the way our government is formed is as an ‘democracy’.

I mentioned a few types of governments, which type is used in your country, and do think it is better than the others or not?
