Make up class_3. What did I learn from this class?
This class was to cover at the overall subject of sociology. Although the COVID-19 virus prevented offline classes and limited various activities, including discussions, but this class still gave me a chance to learn a lot.
In general, sociology major classes cover one specific topic. For example, there are various classes dealing with specific sociological topics such as media, culture, class& stratum, and social research, but this class is the only one deals with the overall subject of sociology.
Although there were many difficulties because everything was in English, I was able to overcome them. Especially, it was helpful to understand because I could watch the video repeatedly. Although English Wiki materials reading and English posting assignments took a lot of time to complete, they also helped me improve my English skills.
The most interesting subjects for me in class were social structure, gender, globalization, economy, government and governance. These are all topics that I should seriously consider in the future, and will have a lot of influence on my life. But in fact, I don't have any more opportunities to deal with these topics in the undergraduate department in future. This is because many classes have disappeared or changed due to changes in our department of major. So this class was more beneficial to me. Also, based on the background knowledge I learned before classes, I was able to think more deeply.
Thanks to this class, now I can make better use of Wikipedia. The original Wikipedia(Wikipedia in english) has a lot of quality information, but documents in English seems pretty hard to read and I often had avoided it. However, my experience in this class has eliminated this repulsion to me, and so I think I will get more used to reading and using English documents.
Blog Posting based on various social topics was also a good experience. Especially, the experience of reading some Economist articles and writing essays was a great experience. I was often encouraged to use the Economist as a material for learning English. In fact, It with other English overseas journals are also recommended as beneficial learning materials. But I've never actually tried this before. Thanks to this class, I realized that reading overseas materials is not that difficult.
The subject of sociology is mostly closely related to our lives, but the opportunity to study and think about them academically is not readily available. Even when I get a bachelor's degree in sociology in the future, I think that I'll still don't know most of the sociological subjects. But at least I think the various topics I learned in this class will still be valid then, and will remain in my head.
