W13 Extra) How many foreigners live in korea? where are they from?
The number of foreigners residing in Korea is close to 2.3 million as of 2018. About half of the foreigners living in Korea are Chinese, followed by Thailand, Vietnam, the United States, Uzbekistan, Japan and the Philippines.
The reason why there are the most foreigners from China is because there is a class of ethnic Koreans. They are ethnic Koreans living in China and seem to immigrate a lot because Korea has a more comfortable environment for them than China, or because they are more comfortable verbally. Also, there are Koreans in China who have been briefly evacuated to Russia or China during the Korean independence movement and have not returned, but there seem to be many Chinese nationals because of their large presence in China. If not, it could be because South Korea is the closest country to China.
In Thailand and Vietnam, it seems to be because there are many people who came to Korea to get married or get a job. Therefore, it seems that Southeast Asian foreigners staying in Korea make up quite a bit.
