Week12 : Social stratification
1. Summary
Social stratification means the
classification of a society that groups people based on socio-economic factors
such as wealth, income, race, education, gender, occupation and social status,
or power. Therefore, stratification is the relative social position of a person
within a social group, category, geographic area, or social unit.
However, the concept of social metering is
often used and interpreted differently within a particular theory. And there
are four principles in the social class. First, social stratification is
socially defined as the assets of society, not as individuals in that society.
Second, social stratification is reproduced from generation to generation.
Third, social stratification is universal but variable. Fourth, social
stratification includes qualitative beliefs and attitudes to social status as
well as quantitative inequality.
The social status variables underlying
social stratification are based on the social perception and attitude of people
and their various characteristics. While many of these variables decrease over
time and place, the relative weights for each variable and a specific
combination of these variables vary from place to place over time. The role of
building the model and social stratification of these variables is still an
active topic in theory and research. Sociologists generally recognize that
there are no pure economic variables because social factors are essential to
economic value. However, variables affecting social stratification can be
divided into economic and other social factors.
And since today's world and the pace of
social change are very different from the Karl Marx, Max Weber, or C. Wright
Mills era, globalization forces lead to rapid international integration in the
exchange of different aspects of worldview, products, ideas and culture.
2. Interesting
The part about the variables at the base of
social stratification was interesting. Among many factors, he was interested in
economic variables. Because I felt that I explained social stratification best.
Besides this, it was interesting to think that ethnicity was an unexpected
variable.
3. discussion
What is the most interesting variable of social
stratification?
I found gender variables the most interesting. Because I am experiencing gender inequality most seriously these days. For example, the coronavirus is increasing domestic violence, and the unemployment rate for women is especially high.

ReplyDeleteThe economic variables were the most interesting. I think it's a variable that people know best and feel most of. In the present age, this variable is most interesting because it does not change with effort.
