Week13: Introduction to Sociology/Gender
1.
Summary
Sociologists
distinguish the same meaning, Gender and Sex. "Gender" means a social
position recognized or predicted by a person within a culturally established
name between masculine and feminine behavior. Gender is a socially constructed
interpretation of human behavior patterns. However, "Sex" means the
allocation of individuals to socially structured categories based on genetic
and biological foundations generally recognized by medical, religious, family
or government authorities. Sex is divided into men and women and defined as sex
in which women produce larger gametes.
There is a biological difference between men and women. However, it is not yet known how or why these differences occur.
And gender differences generally vary by society, environment, historical situation and culture, indicating that these are social constructions. For example, in a workgroup situation in the United States, men tend to focus on challenges while women tend to focus more on relationships, but these differences are often the result of discriminatory treatments.
Gender discrimination is a different belief or attitude toward a person depending on their perceived gender or gender. Examples of this are the belief that there are only two genders, the belief that one sex is superior to another, the belief that men and women are very different, the hatred of men and women or the transophobia. Gender discrimination can take many forms, including preventing women from attending college and paying women to do similar things than men.
Sociologists and other social scientists generally point out that gender differences are due to socialization.
