Week 11: What is more important: the actions of individuals or the environment that influences them?

I think the impact of the environment is more important than individual behavior. I think people are more affected by the environment than by nature or individual behavior from birth. So I think it is important to make friends because it is affected by the environment. No matter how well an individual tries to behave, it will be difficult to do the right thing if the surroundings are not accurate. And today we are very much exposed to the media. I think the reason why adults don't try to show violent movies or abusive scenes to their children when they are young is because they are greatly influenced by their surroundings. Because we are not living alone, we are greatly affected by the surrounding environment. That's why we should always have our own opinions and try to be influenced better than bad by our surroundings.

Week 11-2, Dramaturgy

11-2 1. Summary Dramaturgy understands society as if it were a theater. In addition, it sees all members of society as an actor who plays the role of all members of society. It has Metaphor that the world is theaters and the members of society are actors. Studying social interactions in terms of theater performances is called dramaturgy. Dramaturgy sees elements of human interaction as time, place, and audience. Dramaturgy emphasizes expressiveness as a major component of interaction. According to this paradigm, an individual interacts with others through expressiveness. In this process, personal identity is constantly re-created. Dramaturgy uses concepts stages to understand the world. Stages are the concept that can confirm individuals that they have different role and information. Stages include front stage, back stage, and external stage. Actors follow the formal customs shared with the audience and play a role at the front stage. Backstage is a space completely separate ...

Week 11-1, Symbolic interaction

1. Summary  Symbolic interaction is a sociological theory that understands a symbolic world by analyzing repetitive interactions between individuals and environments. Individuals act and share a common meaning within this social world. Various scholars have tried to interpret these symbolic interactions. For example, George Herbert Mead explains that the core of social interaction is the inner conversation(mind). According to him, individuals uses language to give meaning of the world. Also, all these interactions come together to form a society. His pupil, Harvard Blumer, who first described the symbolic interaction term, explains that people come together to form a group, and society is defined by the actions between them. According to him, the individual goes through the process of approval and re-approval through interaction with the individual and the environment to create a symbol of new meaning. In addition, behaviorism, pragmatism, and Max Weber contributed to the formati...

WEEK 11. Dramaturgy

Image
1. summary Dramatics is a study of dramatic composition and the expression of drama elements on stage. In a comprehensive exploration of the context in which plays exist, for example, the physical, social, political and economic environment in which plays take place, the psychological foundation of characters, metaphorical expressions in plays, etc. are studied. The copyright issue is ambiguous because the function of the drama may vary depending on production. 2. interesting I usually like plays, so I enjoyed reading about this research. It was interesting to study society by comparing it to a play. The sense of who you are, and the dramatic effect that comes from the immediate scene, was like analyzing the character of your character before actually doing a play. 3. discussion Society is like an animal kingdom. To put it a little more differently, I think it's a jungle. This is because it is like the world of animals to compete and fight to live better than others. Wha...

Week 11-4. Did you find yourself changing your presentation when you met with different people? Male/females? Attractive/ nor attractive? Others?

Did you find yourself changing your presentation when you met with different people? Male/females? Attractive/ nor attractive? Others?  I look a little different depending on the situation and the people I meet. Perhaps many people feel like that. As a family member, as a friend, as a student, and as a worker, I look a little different. In my judgment, I act according to the situation. Because there is a figure of me that is required in each situation. I do not act as comfortable as I am at home at work. When I’m with friends, use a more comfortable way of speaking and dress more comfortably than you do in a public affair. At work, they are more professional and formal. For example, formal expressions are used when speaking in a suit. It is so natural and familiar for me to change my appearance when meeting other people in different situations.

Week 11-3. What is more important: the actions of individuals or the environment that influences them?

What is more important: the actions of individuals or the environment that influences them?  I think the impact of the environment is more important. Because people are exposed to their surroundings before they are born and reveal their temperament. After a child is born, he or she is influenced by his or her parents and family and his or her surroundings Exposure to various situations accumulates information about the situation and causes it to act accordingly. Individual behavior is important, but I think it has already been affected by many circumstances before individual actions are important. In other words, individual actions are the result of the environment, not the expression of the individual alone.  For example, you can see from the trends of different people in different generations. The post-war generation and the generation heavily influenced by development in the new media are different. In the previous era, gender roles were distinguished by necessity an...

Dramaturgy (Sociology)

1. Summary -       Dramaturgy is a sociological perspective commonly used in micro-social explanations of social interactions in everyday life. In drama sociology, it is argued that the elements of human interaction depend on time, place and courtesy. The dramatic view is one of several sociological paradigms separate from other sociological theories because it analyzes context rather than examining the causes of human behavior. In the dramatic model, social interaction is analyzed in such a way that people live their lives like actors acting on stage. There are also seven important factors identified by Goffman regarding performance. The steps represent three areas (front, back, outside) where you can find multiple individuals with different roles and information. Front stage is that part of the individual’s performance which regularly functions in a general and fixed fashion. The backstage allows the performer to relax, put his front down and escape the cha...
